    Since the laptop is already 6 years old, It will be very difficult to get spare part for that model. and usually not economical to replace the part.

    My laptop is Inspiron 1420 and i bought 3 3yrs ago. Normally, the screen will start to blink when the hard disk area went hot, but now it is shaking and some lines appeared. Can someone tell me how much if i need to replace the screen? Because if it is too expensive, i will consider to get a new one.

  • samuel (author) said:

    Hi David, is the screen problem occur intermittently or consistent? If it occur intermittently it’s likely the screen is still ok but the problem cause by other component. I cannot quote u on repairing the laptop. If it’s only lossen cable it’s not too expensive to repair, but if it’s the screen problem usually not worth to repair if it’s a low end model. If you think it’s not worth to repair u can read this post http://laptopmalaysia.my/2011/02/faulty-laptop-repair-it/ to continue to use the laptop with external display

    I’m using dell studio 15 for about a year and a half now. The laptop keeps shutting down and the mouse pad turns hot after being used for just an hour. should i bring it to the service center for it to be checked?

  • samuel (author) said:

    hi Nurul, the laptop may be overheat, it can be due to clogged heat sink, you can bring it to service center to diagnose the laptop.

    Hi,

    My studio 1555 broke down recently. Had been using it for 2 years. I found out that the problem is the video card with 6 constant beep code. May i know how much if i want to replace the motherboard? Thanks.

  • samuel (author) said:

    You can call dell and extend the warrant, but since your laptop is out of warranty extend the warranty after the warranty expired is very expensive.

    Hi I just bought a used E4200. However my nightmare is just about to began, the E4200 has an error code of #M1004 (overheat) and has auto shutdown a few times.

    Call Dell helpline but the service tag & express service code is invalid.

    How do I get Dell or any external party to check and replace the motherboard if need be (provided that the cost is not too expensive)

  • admin said:

    @soowm overheat usually cause by failed cooling fan or cloged heatsink. If it’s only clogged heat sink, computer repair shop should able to repair it.

    I have an Inspiron 1420 & I bought it in Dec 2008. While I’m using it, my laptop gets hot & shuts down. What should I do?

  • admin said:

    @Gaaya
    it can be heat sink stuffed with dust, or failed fan, send to service center to clean the heat sink or replace the fan
